Renewable Energy Management Digital Twin

An intelligent and interoperable Digital Twin system for renewable energy plants with integrated Battery Energy Storage Systems.

Overview

The Renewable Energy Management Digital Twin represents renewable energy plants with integrated Battery Energy Storage Systems and supports production forecasting, storage management, grid injection analysis, and market-oriented decision support. It is designed to help operators understand how renewable production, storage availability, weather conditions, grid constraints, and market signals influence energy commercialization decisions.

The tool combines plant data, weather information, battery status, grid constraints, and market signals to support the operation and commercialization of renewable energy resources. Through its connection with a weather Digital Twin, it obtains meteorological information required by the forecasting and simulation modules, enabling the estimation of renewable generation, available storage capacity, and energy injection or non-injection decisions.

Main capabilities

PV+BESS simulation

Simulates photovoltaic production, battery behaviour, grid injection, and curtailment.

Weather-aware forecasting

Uses meteorological information from a weather Digital Twin to support production forecasts.

Decision support

Provides recommendations for energy injection, storage usage, and commercialization strategies.

Digital Twin synchronization

Publishes telemetry and updates the renewable energy plant Digital Twin state.

Workflow

  1. Configure renewable energy plant parameters, including PV, BESS, grid limits, and dispatch strategy.
  2. Connect the weather Digital Twin and define the meteorological variables required by the tool.
  3. Connect plant data sources, such as an emulator or SCADA-like data source.
  4. Run the data ingestion and processing pipeline.
  5. Execute the PV+BESS simulation and forecasting workflow.
  6. Review forecasts, simulation results, KPIs, and recommendations through the dashboard.
